If you are not attempting to delight our readers, don't step onto our stage. if you've read classic poetry and worked at skillful use of the English language,
it shows!
We made it easy to educate yourself about poetry. Below you can click onto fine examples in all styles of excellent poetry by our editor and our award-winning poets.
Learn how to express yourself poetically before you send anything here.
If you disrespect our simple guidelines, or if you've hardly read
great classic poetry, and don't care to read poetry by your peers,
please don't enter! You are not ready for J. Mark press.
If you don't read poetry by other poets, please do not ask them
to read yours. You are not a poet yet.

We are collecting poetry to fill a hard cover book, and you can watch the poetry contest entries right on the web site as we enter them.
You will need to email us below to apply for permission to enter a poem.
We will email you instructions to abide by.
If you agree to abide by the instructions
we will email you the page with the poetry contest entry form.
If you don't follow the rules we email you,
that you agree to, we will ban your future entries.
If your poem is worthy of publication,
you'll need to buy the anthology at
publication time, to be published in it.
By doing that, we can compel poets to read each other's poems and vote for prizes.
We don't publish books that go unread.
If you don't vote, you lose credit for any
votes given to you!

"Poetry to Treasure"
I want to share a really special experience with all of you. About 1971, 35 years ago,
I took my 5-year-old son to Central Park in New York City.
One excellent poet we published that year was Emilie Glenn, (Greenwich Village, NY). We published her poem "The Redhead in Washington Square."
On the train seat, heading for home, I found a literary magazine, "The Coffee House Review." In it was a poem that I've carried with me since: "CLOCK OF THE ANIMALS" by Emilie Glenn
By coincidence, I was on this train with my son, having just taken him to see that magical clock at the Children's Zoo in Central Park, (like my father had taken me to see).
I wrote to Emilie to thank her for writing it.
I'd love to hear from Emilie, who read in the coffee house on McDougal Street, if she's still with us, or if anyone who knows of her. Please click here to read CLOCK OF THE ANIMALS by Emilie Glenn.
