A PROMISE
A promise,
the heart receives gladly
like sunshine following rain.
With hope seeing a better tomorrow,
the heart sings a new refrain.

A promise,
is life returned from death,
like winter changed into spring.
With caterpillar turned to butterfly,
the heart courts a new painting.

FOLKS ARE A LOVELY SONG

I aimed some notes into a starry night
To show most folks a shining light 
The lyrics stole from young and old, 
Gave music sweet a trifle bold. 
About themselves this song would sing 
To gladden hearts make laughter ring. 
The work they stick to year on year 
Through thick and thin, through smiles and tears. 
Their greatness makes this heart of mine, 
To swell in pride for folks so fine... 
l hope that I may someday reach 
the power of words to put in speech 
(If I could just articulate) 
More beauty then I could create

And write a song to touch a star,
